High Pressure Acoustic Release Device Testing

Our KW Pressure Testing engineers were busy assisting with new product development testing for a global developer and provider of innovative maritime autonomy solutions, based in Europe.

The next generation acoustic release device was subjected to specific qualification testing at over 1400 bar (20,000 psi) of hydrostatic pressure, which included cyclic testing, along with pressure holds over extended periods of time.

Our test engineers carried out extensive testing in our safely enclosed 1666 bar (24,160 psi) hyperbaric test chamber whilst the acoustic release mechanism was remotely operated by one of our customer’s engineers.

Acoustic releases are used worldwide for the deployment and recovery of critical subsea scientific instrumentation and it’s critical that they perform reliably and safely for whatever the harsh operating conditions they encounter. Optimising the new design of the acoustic release and selecting the appropriate material for its construction is key.

A full documentation pack including a test engineer’s report, with test chart data, was provided for our valued customer.
