As we continue our growth, we have the pleasure of welcoming our bright and enthusiastic new engineering apprentice Sam Sewell on board.
Sam has already been busy with us for the past year on work experience and has demonstrated his ability to learn and fit into an established team of qualified and experienced electrical and mechanical engineers.
He’s keen and motivated, with a willingness to get involved in our engineering environment, including a variety of mechanical, electrical, control systems, instrumentation, pipe bending and fitting, along with a multitude of other activities, duties and tasks including sometimes making the essential cups of tea and coffee.
Sam has already in the past year attended a BTEC Level 3 General Engineering course at Runshaw College in Leyland, Lancashire, successfully gaining a distinction. Sam then saw an opportunity of moving onto a BTEC level 3 Engineering Fitter apprenticeship course at Alliance Learning, which is based in Horwich, Bolton, Greater Manchester.
The Level 3 Engineering Fitter Apprenticeship takes approximately 4 years to complete, which can lead to a Higher Apprenticeship at Level 4 in Engineering, HNC or HND qualification.
Whilst here at KW Group, Sam has shown an interest and bias towards developing his knowledge and practical experiences with electrical engineering, with the assistance and expert guidance from Tom Christian.
Sam’s qualification also provides a foundation in engineering machining operations and techniques, mechanical engineering drawing, hand fitting techniques, maintaining mechanical devices, assembly and testing fluid power, wiring and testing, as well as extensive theoretical and practical experiences in these areas, all supported by a subject specialist tutor.
The higher level technical knowledge development required to pass the course is mainly delivered in a classroom to ensure a level of technical ability and understanding, assessed through a mixture of practical assessments and exams.
Sam will complete an End Point Assessment to showcase the skills, knowledge and behaviours he has gained throughout his four years, this will be undertaken by an external assessor who will review all evidence, conduct a full observation and hold an interview to determine Sam’s ability and ensure all the training has developed him into a competent and skilful engineer.
