Deep Underwater Subsea Technology Testing

Our 1600 bar (23,200 psi) hyperbaric pressure test chamber was in use for an innovative underwater technology manufacturer with products encompassing sonar, altitude, attitude, depth, heading and temperature sensors.

A high-performance underwater altimeter and echo sounder which utilises sonar technology to derive distance measurement was subjected to quickly being pressurised to over 1000 bar of controlled hyperbaric pressure, held for a set period of time and then quickly depressurised.

This particular altimeter and echo sounder provides an exceptionally long range of underwater measurement capability in excess of 120 meters, the unit has a 1mm accuracy – allowing precision underwater distance measurements to be made.

Rated for depths of 11,000 meters, this device is aimed at very deep underwater operations (such as trips to the Mariana Trench) and has a broad range of applications including underwater marine vehicles such as AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicles), ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicles) and manned submersibles – ensuring precise height above the seabed, heading, pitch and roll are provided.

The 1600 bar test chamber is located within a purpose-built test cell within our facility, equipped with an automated control system. Our experienced test engineers are available to help and ensure components are compliant with customer and relevant industry standards.
